Check out some of the best wall color combinations

From the right wall color combination to the perfect furnishings and accessories, everything matters. So, how does one know what will suit one’s house best? Well, keeping few tricks and tips in mind, one can simply do wonders to one’s love abode.

1. Choose Color to Suit Your Furnishings

Well, as may have otherwise supposed, it is important to first choose your furnishings properly for each room, since wall paint is relatively more inexpensive than your decor items and you would know how to bring out the intricacies of the room by painting your walls in accordance with your furniture.

Choose the right color

Experts’ advice: Choose one light, one bright and one dark color, from a monochromatic scheme, for every room to instill a mix of values within your color pattern.

2. Opt for a Neutral Color Scheme

The color wheel helps you decide between complementary color scheme and analogous color scheme for each room. While the former involves colors that are away from each other on the wheel and are more suited for living room or dining room, known to be the more formal areas of any house, the latter, works around colors that are adjacent to each other on the wheel and are known to be more relaxing and soothing, thus befitting bedroom walls.

Experts’ advice: No matter what color scheme you opt for, always have a dark brown/black colored accessory viz lampshade or photo frame to enhance the look of the room.

3. Keep All Adjacent Rooms in Sync

Do not prefer extreme color contrasts for each room i.e. try to keep a simple color pattern that visually leads you from one room to the other. If you have used a particular color, say blue in your living room, try to use the same color on your lampshades in the bedroom, table mats on the dining table or any accessory in the kitchen.

Play around with colors and find the best one that suits your home

Experts advice: A great way to draw attention is to paint a metallic glaze, viz copper or bronze atop any existing painted item, thus providing it with an amazing sheen.

4. Proper Lighting is Extremely Important

Natural light is the best way to brighten a room during daytime but a room with insufficient daylight should either be supported by a warm color palette or light fixtures, appointed at specifically darker corners of the room, to provide the required illumination.

Experts’ advice: White or any color that has white in it is known to reflect all colors that surround it, thus making the room brighter.

5. Rooms Should Have Variations

When you enter a room, your eyes should virtually be scaling different heights in the room, which is accomplished by placing various furnishings, art placements or window treatments, at varied elevations. Rooms with proper scaling and proportions are an instant hit.

Balance it out

Experts’ advice: Do not clutter a room with too many small or bulky items. Maintaining a proper balance is the golden rule.

6. Be Emotional

Your home says a lot about who you are and has lots to do with what you emotionally nurture. Go down memory lane and get your precious moments up the wall. You could also show a bit of your creativity on the walls with various artwork. Choosing a wall color combination in accordance with your mood and persona is extremely important.

Experts’ advice: Warm colors like red to yellow, brown and tans, advance towards the eye and appear more active while cool colors like blue green to blue violet and grey, tend to recede, thus evoking a cooler and subtle response.
